Content Standards
1st grade level 21 ) Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). [RF.1.2]
Procedure
1.The first thing that I want to do is work on the sounds of the vowel short a
2. I will also be working on consonant c with them as well using words mainly that have both phonemes a = /a/, and c = /K/
3. First of all we will work on writing letters a and c on primary paper I will describe to them first how to draw letter a. I will tell them to start in the middle at the dotted line and make a circle all the way down to the bottom line. Next I will tell them to go back up to the middle dotted line and draw a straight line connected to the circle on the right side all the way down to the bottom
4. Describing how to draw letter c I will tell them to go to the middle dotted line and draw a half circle down to the bottom line and curve it up on the bottom. I will use the image of a crescent moon to help them understand and show a picture.
5. After this I will show pictures of some words that have these letters, sounds, and phonemes in them and ask the students to tell me what each image is of.
6. After this I will go through the pictures again as I spell out the words and physically written on the board.
7. I will have the students repeat after me when showing the pictures and spelling out the words.
8. We will practice writing the words cap, cat, car, can.
9. For the assessment I will show a picture of the word I am saying orally then have the student write the word on their primary paper.
10. To make the lesson more fun I plan to make up a story of a cat named Caroline as the hook of this lesson.
